Yooohoooooo, I think I'm almost fully recovered yay. Arm's not hurting anymore ! Stomach upsets and vomit-feels are gone too ! ^-^ Today's post is gonna feature some special things and special food items found in Singapore and probably other parts of the world but I don't really see them in Brizzy, maybe I'm a bit blind or I haven't searched extensively enough :3 If you're feeling hungry I advise you not to look now :p
Before we get to the foods, I just want to mention to my future self who will be reading this one day - Sometime in the week I had gone to AMK and I was somewhat harrassed by a random male guy. I honestly thought he was someone I knew 'cause he tapped me on the back and said hello! and waved and grinned wifely. I had no idea he was a crazy or... maybe just unstable. So me and Dinnie were having lunch at ToastBox and he just came and plonked his bag and files and phone on our table, which was a tiny table for two and started talking like he's known me forever.
I was still thinking really hard "Do I know you from somehwere?" I even apologized saying "I really can't remember, can you tell me where I know you from?" and he suddenly asked if I was Korean? And what phone I was using? and blah and then this kinda oba-chan came to sit beside me and he immediately backed off asking "Is that your grandmother?" Dinnie quickly said "Yes! She is!" and he left the table. O_O . Then we walked about 5metres away from our table and started singing to the entire mall. Oh gosh . Why do these things happen to me?
Anyways I want a cute bottle umbrella. I've seen this for years and years and actually I know how shitty they are, they're small and don't fold up nicely and break easily but I want one so I don't have to carry stupid wet umbrellas in plastic bags around. ._. Can't pick one. Who ever still likes Angry Birds oh gadd .
Mmm.. they're all so cute. Okay. It's food time. First the world's favourite :x MacDonalds.
MacDonalds in Singapore have a service station at each outlet, in this one there were two because it was a huge huge MacDonalds. I've actually never seen this anywhere else, not in HK, China, Switz, India, Japan, Korea, Australia etc. I guess only Singapore chains love their customers enough to provide unlimited sauce and straws and tissues and pepper and salt.
Makes life so much easier you know? Why isn't the rest of the world following us? Isn't it annoying to queue up to ask for serviettes or sauces? Maybe it's just a first world problem XD.
Okay another thing is fastfood in Australia is always served in take-away bags. Why? Here and the rest of the world MacDonalds have huge huge eating spaces and food is served on trays. Imagine the amount of paper bags that could be saved. Also it's so much neater to serve food on trays IMO because people here actually clear their food themselves and return the trays to service stations.
It's the Lunar New Year! Twisted Fries !! (So sad it's not a permanent item) and the McSpicy burger is such a strange item because it's not available anywhere except SG and Malaysia I believe. It tastes 20x better than the one in Australia, because it's peppery instead of sweet chilli sauce. Ughhh, how I wish I could let every one in the world just take a bite of this and see how heavenly it is. Even Dengyin who struggles to eat spicey food braves her tears and running nose and sweat and possibly stomach upsets to eat this deeeeeliiiishhhhhiious chicken.
So here are some pictures of MacDonalds outlets in Singapore and also the McCafes. (Just taken from the internet, they're usually packed with people!)
"2009 Streetdirectory" jeezus, even back then the outlets were so spacious and pretty already, MacDonalds is like the one fastfood chain in SG that constantly renovates it's cafes. It's actually one of those places you can see groups of school kids sitting and hanging out after school or people study in these cafes because libraries (oh my lawdy, when you see how beautiful libraries in SG and how many there are.... I never ever appreciated things like this until I lived overseas) and Starbucks are always full .
This is probably the newest outlet in SG at the moment, at East Coast Park. Not sure if completed yet or just Artist's Impression. See main counter on the left and cafe counter on the right. So well organized. Simple things like this are what make me happy to come home. Step it up Australia! You have so much freakin' space and potential !
Also during last week I had the chance to meet SinYean! My dear colleague from SPH who played Battleships with me and we got in trouble and my dear penpal in Melbourne (: He had heard of a dessert place named "Wimbly Lu" near both our homes and decided to check it out. For my readers and friends who are interested in this place, it's about 100metres away from my old and glorious Jalan Lateh House.
I felt heart-broken walking past my old gigantic house with a million memories of parties and slumber parties and halloween nights and etc. The home which housed most of my tears when I was going through hard times and also the happiest place for me when friends were over and the amount of times I sneaked in and out of this house and and and... a certain Spiderman even broke into my house and climbed three stories into my room from the back once as a surprise and I almost had a heart-attack.
I hope you're serving your new owners well. I would have sold you away. Just FYI, we bought this beauty at 1.8million and it was sold at 4million but someone once upon a time offered up to 6million for it when we weren't planning to move. Our current Surin Villa was bought at 2.6million but its gone up to 4million + now. I hear plans of moving away.. either to the East Coast or Bukit Timah. Hopefully the new place will be as gorgeous as Jalan Lateh was ♥ Love you 5eva home ~
OKAY! I just took a while and dug up my very old blogposts and found a House Tour of Jalan Lateh post, but its pretty outdated because our house did change quite alot because Alisha was just 2years old in that post so her room and the living room area changed as she grew up. And my room had been repainted red and all the posters gone and I probably got 20 more soft toys on my bed over the years. But not bad not bad, just scrolll down until you see the BRING MORE WOMEN ! because it has some silly stuff about school .
I can cry .. .. not just at the amount I miss that house and my table setup and whiteboard and .. crying at the way I wrote that post XD
So the star is where the old house is and the Green Arrow points towards Nex and towards my new home about 3bus-stops away. Yes we used to live directly in front of a church and it was great! Because it had a huge space for badminton and basketball and teaching Alisha to cycle.
I haven't read any reviews of Wimbly Lu so I had no idea what it was like. I think it would do so much more business in a better location. I didn't really like the place because it was narrow and cramped and the tables were very tiny and hard to eat on.
I just had a Waffle with Salted Caramel icecream woooop (: The waffle was nice and crunchy. Not sure about anything else on the menu. I think this is the most famous thing here. Honestly I wouldn't come here again because every thing else on the menu can be found elsewhere in a nicer environment and cheaper too. Sadly I can't recommend this place to people but if you really like waffles and you want to dine on a tiny table with inconsistent plates and cutlery, you can go there.
I also got to go to Bukit Timah Food Centre because Andrew and Dengyin lovingly drove me there just to eat Char Kway Teow. But it's changed sooooo much, all the food isn't good anymore.
This my friends of Australia, is REAL Char Kway Teow. It does not exist in ANY chinese restaurants in Australia. Believe me, IT'S ALL A LIE. Real charkwayteow is cooked with two types of noodles, the egg ones and the flat noodles which is called "Guo Tiao" in Chinese. CKT also traditionally is cooked with lard and cockles which Singaporeans call "Hum" and most of the time they have pork in it. However, I specially asked for this one to have no Pork or Lard (: and asked for veges ~ also it usually comes with beansprouts and chilli but you can say no.
Trust me even tho it might look similar, I have never ever ever ever tasted anything close to authentic Char Kway Teow in any part of the world. Not even Asian countries. Anyway this traditional food is dying along with many delicious Singapore food so .. hopefully you guys travel to SG because China and India completely take over this country and everything good is gone. Also just saying, The "Chow Mein" you guys order in Asian places tastes nothing like the real "Chao Mian"
Sorry :P But it's probably because the spices vary between the countries and they're trying their best. Or I hope they are. Not to be biased, but probably the best place to go for SG and Malaysian food is the restaurant I worked at "Satay Ria" at Cannonhill. I don't work there any more for personal reasons but you may go and enjoy the food there (:
Final section of this post is about going to the Supermarket, everything I bought today was with my darlinggguuuuuu in mind. XD
We both love this insanely expensive chocolate square wafers which only comes in like 100g packets in Brizz, meanwhile 250g packets cheaper than the Australian 100g packets, so since Daddy's paying... 5 small boxes? :p because the packet kind will get so crushed.
HONEY STARS! Because honey loves to eat cereal and there is no Honey Stars in Australia ):
This is Koko Crunch! It's just called Milo Cereal in Australia I think, and there's no Koala on it ): Why ? Australia y u no put your own animal on the box?
We don't eat bread for breakfast, but that's going to change because GRAPE PEANUT BUTTER WOMBO COMBO :D
Da best kind of potato chips, sadly no more Cheddar Cheese flavour for Ruffles. :3
This the pomelo fruit! I remember mentioning this to Zac's family. Hey Jo and Kate! If you're reading this I'll show you more pictures when my Dad cuts it open! It's a really sweet fruit but very rarely in season.
Okay finally, first time eva I've seen the Giant 10-pack box of Milk Hello Panda :DD it always used to only be available in Chocolate and Strawberry :3 hurrraaayyyyy ~
That's all ! I really put in effort to type this post today hope you guys liked it! ^-^
