Yesterday I had a poster presentation for my capstone module, Ad Campaigns. I really like this module and Digital Portfolio last semester because they finally make sense to me and it feels like I'm actually doing something. The past 3 years have just been studying and memorizing. BAH.
So this module, is a 10-man group project, where we receive a client and solve their business problem. Just fyi, our client is Hotel Jen, previously known as Traders, and they're undergoing a whole re-branding process. Each group has a pair of 5 roles: Account Manager, Account Planner, Media, Creative and Digital Producer.
Here's mine c: I chose to call myself a media planner, because it wasn't specified whether i was a buyer or a strategist. I got many compliments for the poster but a lot of credit goes to Irene who compiled my 3slides into a poster and also designed that avatar ! ~
Enough about me, let's look at some cool posters! :D I liked this one, she's my group mate, go Tess! ~ This was what my poster sorta looked like in my head, but I thought it was too wordy. Actually this whole assignment wasn't even defined very well, the marking criteria was so vague and I didn't know how much research to put, how large a percentage does creativity contribute and and and and ... ugh. It's a business degree, don't make me design stuff !
This was a hugeeeeeee 3-board poster like the London tube map ~
This one's also one my group mates, I liked the use of various social media profile templates :3 ! and all that handwriting, A for effort!
I love 9gag, I love memes so naturally this one caught my eye~
The next few are all done by the Digital Producers, which was my second choice role, I really had a hard time choosing between the two D: and in my opinion these guys had the best posters!
This guy went the extra mile, just look at them details:
- Shayne Armstrong likes this poster [that's his supervisor]
- Gayle Kerr likes this poster [unit coordinator]
- the trending stories
- the sponsored ad is our client [Hotel Jen]
- the upcoming events is our presentation time
- his facebook groups
- distracting group chat
This guy showcased his digital web-designing and publishing skills by creating a whole website behind that QR code, is that even fair? Anyhoo I am aware he scored a High Distinction :3 Much creative, wow, very technology.
and now, my absolute fav, the mac interface poster
It's just brilliant, the folders indicating his tasks,
the emails as a timeline,
the random folders on the desktop - Cats, Stolen Ideas, Conspiracy Theories .
Gr8 m8, I r8 8/8 ! ~

My brother and Irene's engagement ceremony c:
Friday rolled around and I took off for Jakarta at 10am arriving at 7pm where I surprised my little sister and met my fam ~ It was my first time in Jakarta but I was fortunate to miss the traffic jams that this city was famous for. We checked in at the Ritz and I was blown away by the amazing rooms :DDD no time for rest yet, Adrian (Irene's 2nd brother) came over with Kevin (Irene's 3rd brother) and her friend Rebecca to brief us on the procedures of the next day.
Except,
I wasn't paying the slightest attention I was pacing the large room, taking a shower and opening all the gift boxes (dowry? offering? not sure what its called but the groom has to provide a set of gifts and the bride will provide a set too.. later?)
Here we see the engagement ring in its natural habitat.
and the birthstone (Peridot) of the lady,
and her Lehenga Choli, a traditional Indian dress as a gift from our Indian side of the family. Well done dad, everyone, I mean everyone wanted this dress, but you didn't do so well with the sizing so, 9 out of 10.
most importantly, there was this lovely bouquet of 48 purple roses, which symbolizes love at first sight! awwwwwwww ~
So we managed to get in bed around midnight and 5am swung around and it was time to get up. Damn. We took turns having our hair and make-up sorted and packed the gift boxes and practiced our little walks and actions we had to do later.
Off to Irene's house we went, as we anticipated we did experience traffic jams, boy it is such an adventure driving around Jakarta.
Although there was some guy arranging how we stood, Alisha decided to ignore him and walk ahead of me into the house, so the emcee called our names in reverse. Not his fault, but I found it funny. Then again, it was my first appearance in front of Irene's family and they were probably all jittery and excited as we were so they didn't notice.
The procedure was quite lengthy, probably because everything was said in Bahasa for her relatives and then translated by the emcee in English. Dad and bro managed to complete their sections in Bahasa *claps* but dad was sweating as though he was in an oven, speaking of which I was quietly dying in my seat because it's been winter in Australia and I was caked in makeup and in a thick costume.. But I possess the magical ability to suppress my sweat (not joking!) so I don't appear to be in photos :D but secretly I was '' X______X ''
ANYWAY! Here are some awww moments:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The part where Edwin (Irene's first brother) said Irene had confided in him about getting close to a guy but was fretting over him being younger. [this is awwww because Edwin is a protective elder brother, like really really, and she finally had the confidence to tell him]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The part where my brother had to state his intentions and said "Irene has brought me a lot of happiness and with your permission I would like to do the same for her for the rest of my life"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The part where my brother wasn't fooled by the decoys and when Irene was brought out the emcee said "So is this Irene?" and he said "She looks very different, but she is still very beautiful"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and one more little bit that hit me the hardest,
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The part when Irene came out, slowly, lead by Edwin and she sat in between her parents and I could see her trying very hard to hold back tears. [because superstition says if you cry during your engagement, your marriage will be full of tears] She gripped her mother's hands tightly and they shared this brief look. Her father was using the microphone then and she slid her other hand into his free hand on his lap and also gripped it tightly.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right at that moment, I just thought, that, I would never be able to do that. There will never be a time I could sit proudly between both parents, with both of them happy for me and giving me blessings.
But before the sadness could take over me, I glanced at my brother and I thought, heck, if he can be happy, so can I.
SO ! BACK TO THE HAPPY COUPLE.
A lengthy photo session ensued after; meanwhile there was lunch catered and a very lively karaoke and dance session going on outside.
After the ceremony, the men had to get their wedding outfits fitted, and we had a short hour to rest at the hotel and it was time to head out for dinner. We changed into Malay baju kurung outfits and I finally literally let my hair down. It's tough holding your head up with my amount of hair all pinned up.
Well, I think we can all agree I look like a Basset Hound :3
MY HAIR DEFINES ME.
I could pretty much pass off as a different person with my hair up, doncha think?
Although we left on time, we were apparently early so Haslinda had instructed the driver to drive slowly, at a leisurely pace. The driver took it way too seriously and drove at about 30km/h for about ten minutes. I thought it was ridiculous, everyone was just passing him so quickly. Ten minutes later we reached a dead end with road blocks and subsequently a jam and then we weren't moving at all.
O_O
Oh Jakarta.
When we finally reached the restaurant, we were still early, how about that :D We had a Padang style dinner. So the dishes are laid out on the table and you eat want you want. If you don't touch a dish, you don't get charged.
On Sunday, we got to sleep in, I had a foot massage, we visited the wedding venue that was being renovated, and checked out the suites.
Then lunch!
I tried this oxtail soup and loved it c:
and I had 2 plates of my favourite, absolute favourite sambal kangkong ~
and a big group photo before we left for the airport.
It was my very first time meeting Irene's family, I met her 7years ago, and my parents have traveled to Jakarta to see them before, but for me, this weekend was truly just full of happiness and love.
